Dropped your Pixel in the toilet? Got it wet at the pool? Your Pixel refuses to charge after getting wet? Showing pink or green tint after liquid contact? We do Google Pixel water damage repair at our Sterling shop the same day for most cases. Logic board ultrasonic cleaning. Component-level diagnosis. Real data recovery attempts. 30-day warranty. Walk in any day.
This is the most important thing for any Pixel owner to know after a wet phone event. Google’s standard one-year warranty explicitly excludes liquid damage. Even on IP68-rated flagship Pixels.
Google’s official support pages on water resistance and warranty make the exclusion plain: liquid damage is not covered by the standard warranty. The IP rating sets the engineering target. The warranty sets what Google pays for if it fails. Those are two separate things.
IP68 is a laboratory test performed once at the factory on brand new phones in fresh water. The adhesive seals degrade over time. Salt water, chlorine, hot drinks, soap, and sweat all damage the rubber gaskets. After two years, the IP68 rating no longer applies in practice.
If you have active Google Preferred Care (accidental damage protection sold separately), liquid damage may be covered for a deductible per claim. Most customers do not have this coverage.
When Google’s warranty exclusion leaves you on your own, we provide the repair Google will not. Logic board ultrasonic cleaning. Corrosion removal. Component-level diagnosis and repair where possible. Free diagnostic before any paid work. Same-day for most cases.
Most Pixel A-series owners discover this rating gap too late. Not every Google Pixel has the same water resistance.
Pixel 1 and Pixel 2: no official IP rating. Pixel 3: IP68. Pixel 3a: NO rating. Pixel 4: IP68. Pixel 4a: IPX4 (very light splash only). Pixel 5: IP68. Pixel 5a: IP67. Pixel 6-10 standard and Pro: IP68. Pixel 6a-9a: IP67. Pixel Fold: IPX8 outer body with hinge area as the weak point.
IP67 sounds similar to IP68 but the difference matters. IP67 means the phone can survive being dunked in fresh water up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. IP68 ups that to 1.5 meters or deeper. IP67 handles splashes and light rain. It does NOT survive a pool jump, a hot shower, or salt water.
Multiple customers search “where is the water damage indicator on a google pixel.” Here is the honest answer for every Pixel generation.
On most Pixel phones, the Liquid Damage Indicator sticker is inside the SIM tray slot. Eject the SIM tray, look inside with a flashlight. You will see a small white or silver sticker that turns pink or red after liquid contact.
White or silver: no liquid contact detected. Pink or red: liquid contact confirmed. Google’s warranty path is closed at this point. We check the LDI as part of our free diagnostic for transparency.
A straightened paperclip works on every Pixel SIM tray. Insert it gently into the small hole next to the SIM slot until the tray pops out. Shine a phone flashlight into the empty slot and look at the back wall — that is typically where the LDI sits.
We handle every Google Pixel model from Pixel 2 forward. Each generation has its own quirks and access points.
Pixel 2, 3, 3a, 4, 4a, 5, 5a. Older generations have mixed water resistance with several having no IP rating at all. We still see these regularly because Pixel phones often stay in service for 4 to 6 years.
Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro carry IP68. Pixel 6a carries IP67. The lower rating on the 6a is the source of many water damage cases. Google Pixel 6a water damage repair runs $119 to $189 same-day.
Standard and Pro variants are IP68. A-series (7a, 8a, 9a) are IP67. Same gap pattern as the 6 series. Google Pixel 7 water damage and Pixel 7 pro water damage cases come in monthly.
IPX8 rating on the outer body. The hinge area is the weakest water entry point. Water vapor can travel through the hinge mechanism and damage the inner flexible OLED display.
Water damage pricing is harder to predict because the cost depends on what stopped working. Below is the pricing range we quote at the free diagnostic.

| Pixel 4, 4 XL | IP68 | $99 to $169 |
| Pixel 4a | IPX4 splash only | $99 to $159 |
| Pixel 5, 5a | 5 is IP68 / 5a is IP67 | $109 to $179 |
| Pixel 6, 6 Pro | IP68 | $129 to $209 |

The free diagnostic happens first. We quote actual cost based on what we find. You approve before any paid work.
Three factors drive the final number. How much water got in. How long it sat inside. And which components stopped working.
A small splash that you dried off within minutes usually only needs the diagnostic plus ultrasonic cleaning. $89 to $149 for older Pixels. $129 to $179 for current flagship Pixels.
Logic board cleaning plus 1 or 2 component replacements. $129 to $209 on most Pixel models. Google Pixel 6 water damage repair cost in this scenario runs $149 to $189.
Heavy corrosion. Multiple component replacements likely. $169 to $239 on most Pixel models. Sometimes recovery is not possible.
Water reached the hinge. Inner flexible OLED display affected. $179 to $249 depending on whether the hinge mechanism itself needs replacement.
Google offers two official water damage repair paths. Here is the honest comparison.
Google Preferred Care customers pay a deductible for water damage — that is the cheapest path if you have the coverage. For everyone else, we offer same-day walk-in convenience with professional ultrasonic cleaning.
Watch for these symptoms after any liquid exposure to a Pixel phone.
Samsung phones display a clear “Moisture Detected” warning. Pixel does not have an equivalent system. Your Pixel may just silently refuse to charge after liquid exposure. If your Pixel won’t charge after getting wet, bring it in.
Every Pixel since Pixel 1 uses OLED. OLED panels react to water by showing color blooms or tints rather than dead pixels. Screen replacement plus logic board cleaning is the standard repair.
Touch input fails completely or registers ghost taps you didn’t make. Water on the digitizer layer. Common across all Pixel generations after water exposure.
Water trapped between the glass and the sensor blocks the optical sensor from reading your fingerprint. Sometimes resolves after drying. Sometimes needs full screen replacement plus sensor recalibration.
Water inside the speaker grille distorts sound. Sometimes resolves naturally as water evaporates. Sometimes leaves mineral residue that permanently affects audio quality.
Check the LDI inside your SIM tray slot. If it is pink or red, liquid contact happened. Google’s warranty path is closed regardless of what other symptoms you see.
Pixel Fold and Pixel 9 Pro Fold need a different approach for water damage because the hinge mechanism is unlike any slab phone.
Even with the phone closed and the IPX8 outer body rating active, the hinge mechanism has small gaps that allow water vapor to enter. Vapor reaches the inner flexible OLED panel where it condenses and damages the plastic substrate.
Pixel Fold water damage repair requires opening both halves of the phone, drying the hinge mechanism, replacing the damaged inner OLED if affected, and resealing with fresh adhesive. The job takes 3 to 4 hours. $179 to $249 typical.
We check the LDI sticker, inspect the logic board under microscope, and test core functions before any paid work.
Anti-static mat. Controlled disassembly to avoid spreading any internal moisture to dry sections.
Specialized equipment removes water residue and light corrosion without damaging components. Most local repair shops don’t have this equipment.
Every connector, capacitor, and chip tested under microscope. Bad components replaced. Corroded traces cleaned or jumped.
For Fold cases, we dry and clean the hinge mechanism separately, then test inner display function before reassembly.
Restores the IP68 or IP67 rating where possible. We are honest that no aftermarket repair fully restores factory-fresh seal quality.
Touch, display color, cameras, speakers, microphone, charging, wireless charging, and under-display fingerprint sensor all confirmed.
If anything we repaired fails inside the warranty window, bring the phone back at no charge.
