How Much Does iPhone Charging Port Repair Cost?
The number on your quote depends on three things. Your model. The connector type. And whether the port itself needs replacing or just a deep cleaning.
Free Cleaning First
Before we quote any paid work, we run a free port cleaning under a microscope. We see packed lint, dirt, and fabric fibers come out of about a third of the ports we look at. A five-minute cleaning often brings full charging speed back. No charge. For the full free-cleaning policy, see our phone charging port repair page.
Lightning Port Replacement
If cleaning does not fix it, the port itself needs replacing. Lightning ports on iPhone 8 through iPhone 14 run $59 to $119 for the full repair including parts and labor.
USB-C Port Replacement
USB-C ports cost slightly more because the part itself is pricier and the orientation chip has to be paired. iPhone 15, 16, and 17 series jobs run $99 to $149.
How We Compare to the Apple Store on Charging Port Repair
Apple policy on iPhone charging port issues surprises a lot of customers. Here is the honest comparison.
- Whole-phone replacement
- $379 to $449
- AppleCare Plus: $29 to $99
- Appointment required
- New serial number
- Lose battery health history
- Replace just the port
- $59 to $149
- No appointment needed
- Open every day
- Same phone, same serial number
- Same battery health, same Face ID
If you have active AppleCare Plus and your port issue qualifies as accidental damage, Apple $29 to $99 claim may beat us on cost alone. We will tell you honestly during the free diagnostic which path saves you more.
Signs Your iPhone Needs a Charging Port Repair
Watch for these specific signs. For symptoms and basic at-home tests that apply to any phone, see our phone charging port repair page.
iPhone Won’t Charge No Matter What Cable You Try
If three different cables and two different wall plugs all fail, the port itself is dead. Time for a repair.
It Only Charges at a Specific Angle
You bend the cable a certain way and the lightning bolt appears. Let go and it stops. The pins inside the port are damaged or worn. Replacement fixes this.
“Liquid Detected in Connector” Warning Won’t Go Away
iOS 14 and newer shows this warning when moisture is sensed. Sometimes that is a humid pocket. Sometimes the contacts inside are corroded from old water exposure. We can tell the difference during the free diagnostic.
Computer Doesn’t See the iPhone When Plugged In
The phone charges but iTunes, Finder, or Image Capture does not recognize it. The data pins in the port are damaged while the power pins still work. Common after a drop.
Wireless Charging Still Works But the Port Doesn’t
You put the phone on a MagSafe or Qi pad and it charges fine. Plug in a cable and nothing happens. This confirms the port itself is the problem, not the battery or the logic board.
Wait — Do You Actually Need a Charging Port Repair?
Honest question worth asking before you book. iPhone 8 and every newer model supports wireless charging.
Skip the Repair If Wireless Meets Your Needs
If your port is broken but you are fine using MagSafe or a Qi pad daily, you can technically skip the repair. Wireless charging works independently of the port.
The Catch With Wireless
Wireless charging is slower (max 15W on MagSafe, 7.5W on Qi) compared to USB-C fast charging (up to 27W on iPhone 15 Pro Max). You also lose CarPlay over USB and computer syncing.
We Tell Every Customer This Honestly
During the free diagnostic, we explain the trade-off. If wireless charging at home is enough for you, keep using the phone as-is. If you need fast charging, CarPlay, or computer sync, the port repair is worth it. No pressure either way.
What Makes iPhone Charging Port Repair Different
Lightning and USB-C Use Different Flex Cable Designs
Lightning ports are part of a long flex cable that runs from the bottom of the phone up to the logic board. USB-C ports on iPhone 15 and newer use a different flex layout with the orientation chip built in. Each requires the right replacement part.
The Port Flex Cable Runs Near the Battery
The charging port flex passes right next to the battery cell on every iPhone. Removing the port without damaging the battery takes practice. Cheap shops sometimes puncture the battery during a botched port swap.
Water Resistance Gasket Has to Be Reset
Newer iPhones have water-resistant gaskets around the charging port. After any repair, that seal has to be replaced. We use fresh waterproof adhesive on every reassembly.
USB-C Orientation Chip Pairing on iPhone 15+
iPhone 15 and newer have a chip in the USB-C port that the phone reads at connection. After the swap, the new port has to be paired to the phone. We do this with authorized trade tools.
