A professional video game console repair service handles devices that phones, computers, and tablets never deal with. Game consoles run high-performance processors and graphics chips under sustained heavy loads for hours at a time — generating significant heat, stressing disc drive motors, and pushing HDMI output components to their limits. When a console fails, the repair often involves micro-soldering a damaged HDMI port, realigning a disc drive laser assembly, replacing a controller joystick mechanism, or cleaning and reapplying thermal paste to prevent overheating shutdowns. These are specialized repairs that most phone and computer shops do not offer.
At PC Mobile, our technicians repair PlayStation 5, PS4, Nintendo Switch (including Switch OLED and Switch Lite), Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and Xbox One consoles. We also repair controllers — DualSense, Joy-Con, and Xbox controllers. Every console repair comes with our 30-day warranty on parts and labor.
Game consoles are purpose-built entertainment systems with repair challenges that no other device category shares.

HDMI port failure is the single most common repair across PS5, PS4, and Xbox consoles. The HDMI port is soldered directly to the console’s motherboard with tiny contact pins. When a console is moved with the HDMI cable still connected, or when a cable is forced in at an angle, those solder joints crack or the port itself bends. The result is no video output, intermittent display, or a flickering signal. Repairing a console HDMI port requires micro-soldering — removing the damaged port under magnification, cleaning the solder pads on the motherboard, and soldering a new port with precision equipment. This is a specialized skill that most phone and computer repair shops do not perform.
Power Supply
PS5, PS4, and Xbox Series X consoles have physical disc drives with mechanical components — a laser assembly that reads discs, a motor that spins them, and a loading mechanism that accepts and ejects them. These mechanical parts wear out with use. A console that will not read discs, makes grinding noises during disc loading, or ejects discs randomly has a disc drive problem that requires either laser realignment, motor replacement, or full drive assembly replacement. The Nintendo Switch does not have a disc drive — it uses game cartridges instead.

Game consoles run their processors at near-maximum capacity for extended gaming sessions — two, four, six hours or more without rest. This sustained thermal load causes the thermal paste between the processor and heatsink to dry out faster than in most other devices. When the thermal paste degrades, the console overheats, causing performance throttling (frame rate drops, stuttering), random shutdowns during gameplay, or loud fan noise. Our thermal service includes opening the console, cleaning the fan and heatsink, replacing the thermal paste with high-quality compound, and testing under load to verify proper cooling.

Game controllers are the most physically abused components in any gaming setup. Thumbstick joysticks develop “drift” — the character moves on screen even when you are not touching the stick. Buttons become unresponsive from wear. Triggers lose their spring tension. The PS5 DualSense controller, Nintendo Switch Joy-Con, and Xbox controller all experience these issues. Joy-Con drift on the Nintendo Switch is so common that Nintendo faced lawsuits over it. We replace joystick modules, buttons, triggers, and internal ribbon cables on all major controllers.

Here is a fact most gamers discover too late: Best Buy and Geek Squad do not repair game consoles in-store. They send them to the manufacturer for service, which typically takes four to eight weeks. Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft all offer mail-in repair programs, but the turnaround time means weeks without your console. A local repair shop like PC Mobile offers same-day or next-day service on most console repairs — you walk in with a broken PS5 and walk out with it working.
The PlayStation 5 is your highest-demand console repair. PS5 owners are now past their two-year warranty window, and HDMI port damage is the most common issue we see. We also handle PS5 disc drive failures, overheating and fan cleaning, DualSense controller drift, USB port replacement, and PS5 consoles that will not turn on (often caused by a failed power supply IC on the motherboard). PS4 repair remains in demand as well — millions of PS4 consoles are still in active use. PS4 HDMI repair, the “blue light of death” (a power or video output failure), and disc drive issues are our most common PS4 services.
The Nintendo Switch is the console we repair most frequently by unit count. Screen replacement is the top repair — the Switch’s portable design means it gets dropped, stepped on, and thrown into bags where the screen cracks. Joy-Con drift is the second most common issue, followed by charging port failure (the USB-C port wears out from frequent docking and undocking). We repair all three Switch variants: the original Nintendo Switch (LCD screen), the Switch OLED (with a larger, higher-quality OLED display that costs more to replace), and the Switch Lite (a compact handheld-only model).
Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles share many of the same repair challenges as PlayStation — HDMI port failure, disc drive issues (Series X only — the Series S is disc-less), overheating from dust buildup and dried thermal paste, and controller stick drift. Xbox One (One X and One S) consoles are also still actively repaired. We handle all Xbox models and generations.
The most technically demanding console repair. The damaged HDMI port is desoldered from the motherboard under magnification, the solder pads are cleaned, and a new port is precisely soldered in place. We test video output at multiple resolutions to confirm full functionality. Most HDMI port repairs take one to two hours.
We test battery health before and after replacement. Our replacement batteries meet or exceed original manufacturer capacity ratings. Battery replacements typically take 20 to 45 minutes depending on the model.
Disc drives fail from a worn laser lens, a jammed loading mechanism, or a failed spindle motor. Symptoms include discs not being read, grinding noises, discs being ejected randomly, or the console not recognizing that a disc has been inserted. We diagnose the specific component that has failed and repair or replace it.
Switch screen replacements are our highest-volume console repair by count. The original Switch uses an LCD display, while the Switch OLED uses a higher-quality OLED panel that costs more to replace. We match the correct display type to your Switch model and verify touchscreen functionality and color accuracy after installation. Most Switch screen repairs take 45 to 75 minutes.
A console that shuts down during gameplay, runs unusually loud, or shows frame rate drops is likely overheating. Our thermal service includes opening the console, cleaning the fan blades and heatsink fins, replacing the dried thermal paste with high-quality compound, and reassembling. We test the console under gaming load to verify proper cooling before returning it.
Joy-Con drift is one of the most well-known console defects. The analog stick registers input even when untouched, causing characters to move on their own. The issue is a worn contact pad inside the joystick module. We replace the joystick module entirely — a permanent fix, not a temporary calibration workaround. Most Joy-Con repairs take 30 to 45 minutes per Joy-Con.
A console that shows no response when the power button is pressed could have a failed power supply, a short circuit on the motherboard, a blown fuse, or a failed APU (the main processor chip). We perform systematic diagnosis to identify the root cause before recommending repair. In many cases, a failed power supply component can be repaired at a fraction of the cost of a full motherboard replacement.

Most console repairs are completed same day. HDMI port micro-soldering takes one to two hours. Disc drive repair takes one to two hours. Joy-Con drift repair takes 30 to 45 minutes per controller. Thermal cleaning and paste replacement takes about an hour. We give you a clear estimate before starting.
Geek Squad does not repair game consoles in-store. They send consoles to the manufacturer (Sony, Nintendo, or Microsoft) for service, which typically takes four to eight weeks. We repair consoles in our own shop, usually the same day you bring it in.
Yes. Joy-Con drift is caused by a worn joystick module inside the controller. We replace the entire module — a permanent fix, not a calibration workaround. Most Joy-Con repairs take 30 to 45 minutes per controller. We also repair Joy-Con rail connectors, button failures, and charging issues.
Almost always yes. A PS5 costs $499 new. Most PS5 repairs — HDMI port, disc drive, thermal cleaning, controller repair — cost a fraction of that. Even a complex HDMI micro-soldering repair is significantly cheaper than replacing the entire console. We will give you an honest recommendation based on the specific issue.
In most cases, yes. No video output is typically caused by a damaged HDMI port — the most common PS5 repair we handle. We perform HDMI port micro-soldering to replace the damaged port with a new one and test video output at multiple resolutions. If the issue is not the HDMI port, we diagnose whether the video output IC on the motherboard has failed.
Yes. We replace cracked and damaged screens on all three Switch models: Nintendo Switch (LCD screen), Switch OLED (OLED screen — costs more due to premium display), and Switch Lite (compact LCD screen). Most Switch screen replacements take 45 to 75 minutes. We verify touchscreen accuracy after every replacement.
Yes. We repair Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One X, and Xbox One S. Common Xbox repairs include HDMI port repair, disc drive service (Series X and One models), overheating and thermal paste replacement, controller stick drift, and power issues. All Xbox models are covered.
